That time I walked from Wall Street to Midtown

Way back when I was in my 20s and living in NYC, I wasn’t making a lot of money. I had an entry-level job at a not-for-profit and lived paycheck to paycheck. One day at work, I realized I didn’t have enough money to take the subway home and return in the morning. Luckily I was getting paid in a few days but I still needed to figure out how to get back and forth until then.

I was so embarrassed. I called one of my closest friends and was sobbing. She told me to meet her after work and she would lend me some cash. I walked from Wall Street (where my office was) up to Midtown (where her office was) and she gave me more than enough money to cover the train and whatever I needed for the week. She said it was no problem. She told me these things happen. She made me feel better about the whole thing.

The lesson I learned: sometimes you are in a situation you can’t fix on your own and it’s okay to ask for help. And it’s amazing when that person doesn’t judge you or make you feel bad for your situation.

If you are struggling to sort through your stuff, you can get help. I know we live in a culture where we are meant to figure our way through it (especially with sorting through our stuff) but if it’s been a challenge, there is nothing wrong with you AND it’s okay to ask for help.

I created Declutter Your World to help people who (for various reasons) can’t seem to get through the piles of things they own. If you have been interested in it and want to know more about what it’s like to work with me and learn the system I use, I am holding a 5-day declutter on September 16 - 20, 2024 in the Dear Loves Just Breathe Facebook Group.

(she's still one of my closest friends by the way)
