When your storage areas become cluttered it can feel overwhelming and anxiety producing: Where to start? How to get through it all? What's even in these boxes?
So let's go over how to clear away the clutter in your storage areas in a simple and manageable way:
Take the storage clutter one box or container at a time. Taking it all out and dumping it isn't going to help and if anything you might just find yourself an hour later putting it in that exact same box.
Plan to spend a short amount of time on decluttering storage preferably 15 - 30 minutes at a time (but if you need to do an hour that's okay). When we use up an entire weekend, we are more likely to burn out than get a lot done. Keeping it slow and steady helps prevent that.
Some of what you find is going to be emotionally charged. Some questions you can ask yourself are:
Do I still want this?
Does this still have meaning to me?
Is this something I want to keep or feel I should keep?
Over the past few weeks, I've gone over three types of clutter: Surface Clutter, Behind The Door Clutter , and Storage Clutter (or In The Box Clutter). You can find those posts on the blog here.
I hope this helps you on your decluttering journey.
